Bytes to MB
Converts bytes to megabytes (MB) and mebibytes (MiB).
Convert bytes to GB and GiB in one step. It explains why a 1 GB file can show up as 0.93 GB on your computer.
GB = bytes ÷ 1,000,000,000 GiB = bytes ÷ 1,073,741,824
At this size the gap between the two is about 7.4%, so 1 GB is only 0.93 GiB.
| Bytes | GB | GiB |
|---|---|---|
| 100,000,000 | 0.1 | 0.09313225746 |
| 500,000,000 | 0.5 | 0.4656612873 |
| 1,000,000,000 | 1 | 0.9313225746 |
| 1,073,741,824 | 1.073741824 | 1 |
| 2,000,000,000 | 2 | 1.862645149 |
| 4,294,967,296 | 4.294967296 | 4 |
| 8,000,000,000 | 8 | 7.450580597 |
| 16,000,000,000 | 16 | 14.90116119 |
| 64,000,000,000 | 64 | 59.60464478 |
| 100,000,000,000 | 100 | 93.13225746 |
Gigabytes measure RAM, phone storage, mobile data plans, games, and film downloads. At this size the decimal and binary values differ by about 7%, which is enough to notice when you compare a download size with the free space on a device.
4,294,967,296 bytes, the first example above, is 2^32 bytes. It is the most memory a 32-bit system can address. The FAT32 file system caps a single file at one byte less than this, which is why USB drives formatted as FAT32 refuse files of 4 GiB or larger.
1,000,000,000 in SI units. A gibibyte (GiB) is 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Your system divides by 1,024³ instead of 1,000³, so it is really showing gibibytes.
RAM is built in powers of two, so "8 GB" of RAM is actually 8 GiB.
Often used together with the Bytes to GB.
Converts bytes to megabytes (MB) and mebibytes (MiB).
Converts bytes to terabytes (TB) and tebibytes (TiB).
Converts any data-size unit to all other units at once.
