How to use the HTTP Check

  1. Enter a web address, or a bare host name.
  2. Tick the robot check and press Check.
  3. Read how many locations reached the host, then the status on each row.

How it works

This check runs from servers in many countries. The address is used for that check and is not stored.

Each location makes one request and reports five facts: whether it reached the server, how long that took, the status text, the HTTP code, and the address that answered. "Connection refused" is a finished row: the code and the address are empty because nothing accepted the connection.

A bare host is requested with HTTPS. The page body is not downloaded and is not shown. The same destination rule as Ping applies: one measurement a minute, shared with a later request for that address.

Examples

  • A location that got a normal page shows Reached, a time, "200 OK", and an address.
  • A location that was refused shows Failed, a short time, and "Connection refused", with no code.
  • example.com with no scheme is checked as https://example.com.

Limitations

  • Only ports 80 and 443. Other ports are refused before the check starts.
  • This is the status line, not a timing breakdown of DNS, TLS, and download, and not the HTML.
  • A location that has not finished within 20 seconds stays as "Still running".
  • The set of locations changes from check to check.

Frequently asked questions

Why do two countries disagree?

Each one connects on its own. One can be refused, or redirected, while another receives 200.

Does a 301 count as reached?

Yes. The row shows 301 and the status text. To see every hop, use the Redirect Checker.

Will you fetch a URL on a private network?

No. Addresses that are not public are refused.

Often used together with the HTTP Check.

  • Ping

Four pings from each available location, with the time of every packet.

  • Redirect Checker

Every redirect hop, with status, Location, and time, up to 10 hops.

  • HTTP Headers

Status, final URL, and response headers from one GET.
