Work with PDF pages
Use Merge PDF to join several files into one, and Split PDF to cut one file into parts or pull out a few pages. Organize PDF Pages shows every page as a thumbnail, so you can drag pages into a new order, duplicate them, or delete the ones you don't need. Rotate PDF fixes pages that were scanned sideways.
To finish a document, Add Page Numbers to PDF stamps a number on each page, and PDF Watermark adds a DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL mark, or your logo.
Convert to and from PDF
PDF to Images saves each page as a JPG or PNG, and Images to PDF goes the other way, one photo or scan per page. Text to PDF and Markdown to PDF lay out typed text on real pages. For editing elsewhere, PDF to Text and DOCX to Text pull the words out of a file, Text to DOCX makes a Word file from plain text, and the Document Word Counter counts the words in a finished document.
What these tools can't do
- Open password-protected PDFs. The file is encrypted, and removing the password needs the password itself plus software that rewrites the whole file. Remove it in the app you used to protect it, then come back.
- Read scanned pages. A scan is a picture of text, not text. Getting words out of it needs OCR, which these tools don't do.
- Turn a Word file into a PDF with the same layout. Matching Word's layout means running a word processor. Use Save as PDF in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice instead.
- Make a PDF smaller. Real PDF compression means re-encoding every image and font inside the file, which needs desktop software such as Ghostscript.
Metadata in documents
Every PDF and Office file carries a small set of properties next to its content: the author's name, the company, the app that made it, the date it was created and last saved, and in Word files the total editing time and a revision count. Nobody sees them in the document itself, but anyone can read them in File, Properties.
The PDF Metadata Remover clears the PDF's information fields and its XMP stream, and the Document Metadata Remover does the same for DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, and OpenDocument files. To change the fields instead of clearing them, use the PDF Metadata Editor.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool in this category reads your file with JavaScript in your browser and builds the result there. Nothing is sent to our server, so you can use them for contracts, medical letters, or anything else private.
Is there a page or file size limit?
PDFs can be up to 100 MB each, and Merge PDF takes up to 20 files at once. Word and OpenDocument files can be up to 20 MB. There is no page limit, but very long documents take longer on older phones.
Why is the text from my PDF empty?
The PDF is probably a scan. Scanned pages are images of text, so there is no text layer to read. You need an OCR program to turn the pictures of letters back into text.
Do the PDF tools change the quality of my file?
No. Merging, splitting, reordering, rotating, numbering, and watermarking copy each page as it is. Text stays sharp and images are not compressed again.
