How to edit PDF properties
- Choose a PDF or drop it on the box. Its current properties fill the form and appear in the table.
- Change any field. Leave one empty to remove it. Separate keywords with commas.
- Set the dates if needed. They use your computer's time zone.
- Press Save PDF, check the After column, and download the file.
How it works
A PDF stores its properties in two places. The Info dictionary holds the eight classic fields: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, CreationDate, and ModDate. Newer apps also write an XMP stream, a block of XML with the same values and often more.
This tool writes your values into the Info dictionary with pdf-lib and removes the XMP stream. If the old XMP stayed, Adobe Acrobat and other readers that prefer it would keep showing the old title and author. Dates are stored in the PDF format D:YYYYMMDDHHmmSS with the time zone offset. The pages themselves are copied without changes.
Examples
- The sample report starts with Title "Quarterly Field Report", Author "Alex Sample", Creator "Sample Writer 2.1", and an XMP stream. Change Author to "Field Team" and save: the table marks Author as changed, and the XMP stream is gone.
- A PDF exported with the title "Microsoft Word - draft_v7.docx": replace it with the real title, which browsers show in the tab and search engines may show in results.

Limitations
- Custom fields beyond the eight standard ones are kept but can't be edited here.
- Password-protected PDFs can't be opened.
- To remove every property at once, use the PDF Metadata Remover.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change the author of a PDF?
Open the PDF here, type the new name in the Author field, and press Save PDF. The downloaded copy carries the new author.
Why does my PDF still show the old title in some readers?
Those readers read the XMP stream first. This editor removes the XMP stream when it saves, so every reader falls back to the new values.
Can I change the creation date of a PDF?
Yes. Set the Created and Modified fields to any date and time, or clear them to remove the dates.
Does editing the metadata change the pages?
No. Only the properties are rewritten. The text, images, and fonts are copied as they are.
