      How to split a PDF

      1. Choose a PDF, drop it on the box, or load it from a URL.
      2. Pick how to split it: By ranges, Every N pages, Extract pages, or Every page.
      3. Type the ranges or the number of pages. The list under the settings shows the files you will get.
      4. Press Split PDF. Download each file on its own, or all of them as one ZIP.

      How it works

      The PDF is opened with pdf-lib in your browser, and each new file gets a copy of its pages, with the fonts and images those pages use. The pages are not redrawn, so the parts look exactly like the original.

      • By ranges: each range between commas becomes one file. 1-3, 4-6, 7 makes three files.
      • Every N pages: the document is cut into parts of N pages; the last part holds what is left.
      • Extract pages: the pages you type go into a single file, in the order you type them.
      • Every page: one file per page.

      Each file is named after the original with its pages added, for example report-pages-4-6.pdf.

      Examples

      • The 3-page sample with ranges 1-2, 3 gives two files: pages 1 to 2, and page 3.
      • A 10-page file split every 4 pages gives three files: pages 1-4, 5-8, and 9-10.
      • Extracting 7, 2 from a report gives one 2-page PDF with page 7 first.
      • 5- takes page 5 to the last page; -3 takes pages 1 to 3.

      Limitations

      • One PDF at a time, up to 100 MB.
      • Password-protected PDFs can't be opened.
      • Bookmarks are not copied into the new files.
      • Splitting doesn't compress anything, so the parts can add up to more than the original when they share large fonts or images.

      Frequently asked questions

      How do I extract a single page from a PDF?

      Pick Extract pages, type the page number, and press Split PDF. You get a new PDF with only that page.

      Can I split a PDF into equal parts?

      Yes. Pick Every N pages and type how many pages each part should have. The last part gets whatever is left over.

      Why are the split files bigger than I expected?

      Every new file carries its own copy of the fonts and images its pages use. When all pages share one large font or background image, each part includes it.

      Are my PDFs uploaded when I split them?

      No. The PDF is read and split in your browser, and the new files are created there too.
