How to convert text to image files with a transparent background

Save a quote, heading, or label as an image with the words and layout you choose. Use a transparent background when the text needs to sit over a photo or slide.

When a heading needs to be a picture file

You have a quote or a product label to put on a slide, but you need it as a picture file. Copying the words into another app means setting the font, line breaks, and spacing again. A screenshot can bring along the page background or leave too little room around the letters.

Drawing the words into an image gives you control over the background and the space around the text before you save it. For text that will sit over a photo, choose transparency. If you export that same text as JPG, the background color becomes part of the picture.

This job is about saving the words themselves. If you want an illustration generated from a written description, the tool below does not create one.

Set the words and layout before exporting

Open Text to Image and type or paste the words. It draws them on a canvas in your browser and exports PNG, JPG, or WebP. Your text is not uploaded. The preview changes as you edit, so you can check the line breaks before downloading.

Choose Roboto or a system serif, sans-serif, or monospace font. Set the size, regular or bold weight, italic style, and text color. Left, center, and right alignment control how the lines sit together. One style applies to the whole text; you cannot make only one word bold or upload a custom font.

Use padding to leave room around the letters. Line height changes the space between lines. Enter a Max width to wrap long lines, or press Enter to put a line break where you want it. For example, a two-line quote in 36 px serif with a max width of 600 px can stay within 680 px including padding, as shown on the tool page.

For an overlay, tick Transparent background and choose PNG or WebP. PNG keeps transparency exactly. JPG cannot store transparency and uses the selected background color. The 2x setting draws every size at twice the scale for high-density screens and slides; check the resulting dimensions before you save.

Convert typed text into an image file

  1. Open Text to Image and paste the quote, heading, or label. Press Enter where you need a deliberate line break.
  2. Choose a font, size, and style. Set the text color and check that the words are readable against the intended background.
  3. Adjust alignment, padding, and line height. Enter a Max width if long lines need to wrap.
  4. Choose PNG or WebP and enable Transparent background for an overlay. Choose JPG with a background color when transparency is unnecessary.
  5. Select 1x or 2x and check the preview and image dimensions. Keep each side within the tool's 8000-pixel limit.
  6. Press the download button for the selected format. Place the saved image in your slide or over your photo and check the result.

What the export will not do

  • The tool draws the text you enter. It does not generate a scene or illustration from a prompt.
  • Images are limited to 8000 pixels on each side. At 2x, the doubled output must still fit that limit.
  • One style applies to all the text. Mixed styles and custom font uploads are unavailable.
  • System fonts can look different across operating systems. Roboto is the consistent font option supplied by the tool.
  • JPG exports always have a background color. Use PNG or WebP when the image needs transparency.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save typed text as a PNG image?

Paste the text into Text to Image, set the font and layout, choose PNG, and press the download button. The image is drawn in your browser.

How can I make a text image with a transparent background?

Enable Transparent background and select PNG or WebP. JPG cannot store transparency and uses the chosen background color.

Can I use a different font or style for each word?

No. One style applies to the whole text, and custom font uploads are unavailable. Choose Roboto or a system serif, sans-serif, or monospace font.

Should I choose 1x or 2x for my text image?

Choose 2x for an image drawn at twice the size for high-density screens or slides. The exported image must still fit within 8000 pixels on each side.
