How to use the Markdown Preview

  1. Type or paste Markdown into Markdown, or upload an .md file.
  2. Watch the Preview update as you type. On a phone, switch between the Write and Preview tabs.
  3. Press Copy HTML to paste the result into a CMS or email, or download the .md or .html file.

How it works

Markdown is converted to HTML with marked, following CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM).

  • GFM adds tables, task lists (- [x]), strikethrough (~~text~~), and automatic links.
  • The HTML is then cleaned with DOMPurify, which removes scripts, event handlers, and other code that could run in the page. What you copy is the cleaned HTML.
  • Line breaks inside a paragraph are joined, as on GitHub. End a line with two spaces or a backslash to force a break.

Limitations

  • Code blocks are not syntax highlighted.
  • Math ($...$), Mermaid diagrams, footnotes, and GitHub's > [!NOTE] alerts are shown as plain text.
  • Images load from the addresses you give, so the preview asks those servers for them.
  • Your text isn't saved. Download the .md file before closing the page.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same Markdown GitHub uses?

It follows GitHub Flavored Markdown: tables, task lists, strikethrough, and autolinks all work. GitHub-only extras such as alerts, Mermaid, and math are not rendered.

Is the HTML output safe to paste into my site?

It is sanitized with DOMPurify, so scripts and event handlers are removed. Your site may still apply its own rules for allowed tags.

Can I use HTML inside Markdown?

Yes. Simple HTML such as <br>, <kbd>, or <details> is kept. Anything that could run code is removed.

Is my text uploaded?

No. It is converted in your browser, and nothing is stored.
