Time CalculatorCalculators
Adds and subtracts amounts of time, for example 2h 45m + 1h 30m.
Time counts in sixties and calendars have months of different lengths, so ordinary arithmetic gets both wrong. Add up hours and minutes, count the days between two dates, and find where a date falls in its year.
Time counts in sixties, not tens. 1:30 plus 1:45 is 3:15. Type 1.30 + 1.45 into a standard calculator and you get 2.75, which reads like 2 hours and 75 minutes. Decimal hours are another format again: 1:30 is 1.5 hours, because 30 minutes is half an hour. Payroll and invoicing systems often want decimal hours, while schedules and video lengths use hours and minutes.
Counting days has its own question: does the end date count? For the time left until an event, it does not, so Monday to Friday is 4 days. For something that uses both the first and the last day, such as leave from work or a course, it does, and Monday to Friday is 5 days. Hotel stays are counted in nights, and Monday to Friday is 4 nights. Leap years add a trap too. 2024-02-01 to 2024-03-01 is 29 days, and the same range in 2023 is 28.
Some systems use the day of the year instead of a date. Manufacturing batch codes, food packaging, and some logistics systems write it as YYDDD, the Julian date format, so 26269 is September 26, 2026. In a leap year, every date from March 1 onward has a day number one higher.
To add or subtract amounts of time, use the Time Calculator. Enter days, hours, minutes, and seconds in the first row, then choose + or − for each further row, up to 20 rows. Empty fields count as 0, and minutes or seconds above 59 carry over, so 90 minutes becomes 1:30:00. The total comes out as HH:MM:SS, with decimal hours to 4 places, total minutes, and total seconds. 2:45:30 + 1:30:45 is 4:16:15, which is 4.2708 hours. 8:00:00 − 2:45:30 is 5:14:30. If you subtract more than you add, the total is negative. Each field takes a whole number from 0 to 99,999. This tool adds up amounts of time, not clock times.
To count the days between two dates, use Days Between Dates. Choose the start and end dates and tick Include end date (+1 day) when the last day should count. The result shows days, then weeks and days, then years, months, and days. 2026-01-01 to 2026-12-25 is 358 days, 51 weeks and 1 day, or 11 months and 24 days, and 359 with the end date included. If the end date is before the start, the dates are swapped and a note says so. Weekends and holidays count like any other day.
To find where a date sits in its year, use the Day of the Year Calculator. Choose Day number of a date, or Date of a day number to work backwards. It returns the day number from 1 to 365 or 366, the days left in the year, and the ISO week. September 26, 2026 is day 269, with 96 days left. December 31, 2024 is day 366, and day 60 of 2024 is February 29. ISO weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday.
Add seconds, then minutes, then hours. Every 60 seconds carries 1 minute, and every 60 minutes carries 1 hour. 1:30 plus 1:45 is 3:15.
By default it counts from the start date up to the end date, without the end date itself. Include end date adds one day.
Day 269, with 96 days left in the year.
Yes. Every February 29 inside the range is counted, so February 2024 has 29 days and February 2023 has 28.
