How to use the Days Between Dates Calculator

  1. Choose the Start date and the End date.
  2. Tick Include end date (+1 day) if the last day should count too, for example when counting the days of a trip.
  3. Press Calculate. The number of days appears first, followed by weeks and days, and years, months, and days.

How it works

days = endDate − startDate   (+1 if "Include end date" is on)
  • startDate, endDate: the two dates, counted as whole calendar days
  • days: the number of midnights between them

For the years, months, and days breakdown, the calculator counts whole months forward from the start date, then counts the days that are left over. Weeks and days are the day count divided by 7, with the remainder shown as days.

Examples

  • 2026-01-01 to 2026-12-25 = 358 days, which is 51 weeks and 1 day, or 11 months and 24 days. With the end date included, the count is 359.
  • 2024-02-01 to 2024-03-01 = 29 days, because 2024 is a leap year. The same range in 2023 gives 28 days.

Should the end date be included?

It depends on what you are counting. For the time left until an event, leave it off: Monday to Friday is 4 days. For something that uses both the first and the last day, such as leave from work or the length of a course, turn it on: Monday to Friday inclusive is 5 days.

Hotel stays are counted in nights, and a stay from Monday to Friday is 4 nights, which matches the default count.

  • Days left in the year

Limitations

  • If the end date is before the start date, the dates are swapped and a note says so.
  • The same date twice gives 0 days, or 1 with the end date included.
  • Weekends and holidays are counted like any other day. For working days only, use the business days calculator.
  • Dates must fall between the years 1000 and 9999.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include the start and end date?

By default the result counts the days from the start date up to the end date, excluding the end date itself. Tick "Include end date" to add one day.

How are leap years counted?

Every February 29 inside the range is counted automatically.

What if I enter the dates in the wrong order?

The calculator swaps them and tells you. The number of days stays positive.
