MP3 to WAV

Decode an MP3 into a 16-bit PCM WAV file for an editor or workflow that requires WAV. Set the sample rate and channel count before converting.

Audio and transcripts stay on your device. Processing runs in your browser.

MP3. Up to 100 MiB per file (50 MiB on touch devices), 1800 seconds. Decoded audio memory limits also apply.

    Settings

Bitrate applies to MP3 and AAC. WAV uses 16-bit PCM; FLAC is lossless. OGG uses quality-based encoding.

No account or daily usage quota. File and device limits protect your browser from running out of memory.

How to use MP3 to WAV

    1. Choose your MP3 file from your device. The page checks the extension, file header and readable duration.
    2. The output format is fixed to WAV for this converter.
    3. Set the sample rate and mono or stereo channels. Bitrate does not apply to uncompressed WAV.
    4. Press Convert audio. The processing engine loads only when needed.
    5. Play the result and download it when it suits your needs.

WAV compatibility does not restore lost detail

The MP3 is decoded and its audio samples are written into a WAV container. That gives editing applications a PCM file, but the sound still includes any losses from the original MP3 encoding.

A 44,100 Hz, 16-bit stereo WAV stores 176,400 bytes of samples each second. One minute uses about 10.6 MB before headers. Mono uses half the sample data at the same rate. Expect a larger file than the MP3.

    A practical workflow

Use MP3 to WAV when a receiving app requests WAV. Convert a short recording first, listen to the loudest and quietest passages, and keep both the source and the result until you have checked playback.

To remove an unwanted section from an MP3 copy, open MP3 Cutter. To reduce the bitrate of an existing MP3, use MP3 Compressor.

    Before you download

    • Only a readable, supported audio stream can be converted. Encrypted files and damaged media are unsupported.
    • Large files may exceed browser memory even when their compressed size fits the displayed limit.
    • Changing format does not guarantee a smaller file or better sound. Output tags and artwork may differ from the source.

    Frequently asked questions

Does MP3 to WAV increase audio quality?

No. It changes the storage format to PCM. WAV is useful when an editor or upload specification requires it, but it cannot recreate sound discarded during MP3 encoding.

    Is my MP3 file uploaded?

No. The file is read and processed in your browser. The audio engine downloads from this site, but the selected media is not sent to a server.

    Can I choose mono output?

Yes. Choose Mono under Channels. This downmixes the recording into one channel; it does not isolate a voice or remove background music.

Why can a file fail below the size limit?

Compressed size does not describe decoded memory use. Duration, sample rate, channels, codec support and available browser memory also affect whether processing succeeds.
