Convert minutes to decimal hours
Turn minutes into decimal hours for payroll, split a block of time between clients by percentage, and see what the hours are worth at your rate.
Work out a percentage of a length of time, such as 25% of 1 hour 30 minutes, or what percent one length of time is of another. The time percentage calculator takes hours, minutes, and seconds, so there is no need to convert to decimals first.
part = total seconds × P ÷ 100 share = part seconds ÷ whole seconds × 100
Each length of time is turned into seconds first, so 1:30:00 becomes 5,400 seconds. The answer is turned back into hours, minutes, and seconds, rounded to the nearest second for display. Decimal hours are the seconds divided by 3,600.
Billing one block of time to several clients or projects is a common reason to need this. If 25% of a 1 hour 30 minute call belongs to one client, that client gets 22 minutes 30 seconds, or 0.375 hours. Payroll and invoicing systems usually want decimal hours, so the calculator shows that figure next to the clock-style answer.
