How to use the Text Splitter

  1. Paste text or upload a text file.
  2. Choose a split mode: delimiter, regex, every N lines, every N characters, or equal parts.
  3. Enter the delimiter or size settings for that mode. If you are splitting by characters, decide whether words should stay whole when possible.
  4. Copy any part, or download all parts as a ZIP of plain text files.

How it works

The splitter normalizes line endings first, so pasted Windows and Unix text behave the same way. Then it applies the mode you picked:

  • Delimiter splits wherever the exact text appears.
  • Regex splits with a regular expression, which is useful for patterns such as one or more blank lines.
  • Every N lines groups the input into chunks of that many lines.
  • Every N characters cuts the text into chunks of that size. When Keep words together is on, the cut moves to the next space when possible.
  • Equal parts divides the remaining text as evenly as possible from left to right.

Examples

  • Split red,green,blue by the delimiter , to get red, green, and blue.
  • Split a 12-line list every 5 lines to get parts with 5, 5, and 2 lines.
  • Split a 1,000-character note into 4 equal parts to get four chunks close to 250 characters each.

Limitations

  • Regex mode uses the browser's regular expression engine. Invalid patterns are rejected with the browser's own error message in plain words.
  • When Keep words together is on, a part can grow past the target size so a word is not cut in half.
  • Splitting by delimiter removes the delimiter from the output parts.
  • Inputs up to 10 MB are supported.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split text into equal parts for posting limits?

Yes. Use Equal parts when you already know how many chunks you need, or Every N characters when the limit is based on a maximum size.

Does it keep words whole?

It can when you split by characters or equal parts. Turn on the option that avoids breaking a word whenever there is a nearby space.

Can I split by blank lines?

Yes. Regex mode is the best fit for that. A pattern such as \n\s*\n splits on empty lines between paragraphs.
