    How to use the Image Rotator

    1. Add the images you want to turn.
    2. Choose 90°, 180°, or 270° clockwise, or Custom for any angle.
    3. For a custom angle, decide how to fill the corners: transparent (PNG, WebP, AVIF) or a color.
    4. Download the rotated images one by one or as a ZIP.

    How it works

    • Quarter turns (90°, 180°, 270°) move every pixel to its new place without any blending, so nothing gets blurrier. A 90° turn swaps the width and height.
    • Other angles draw the image rotated on a new canvas with smooth resampling. The canvas grows to fit: an image W × H turned by angle a needs W·|cos a| + H·|sin a| by W·|sin a| + H·|cos a| pixels, so no corner is cut off.
    • Negative angles turn counter-clockwise.
    • The file keeps its format. PNG stays lossless, and JPG is saved again at quality 92.

    Examples

    • A 4000 × 3000 landscape photo turned 90° becomes 3000 × 4000 portrait.
    • A 100 × 100 logo turned 45° needs a 141 × 141 canvas, with transparent corners if you keep PNG.
    • A scan that is 2° crooked: choose Custom, enter 2 or -2, and crop off the corners afterwards with the Image Cropper.

    Why do some photos look sideways?

    Phones usually save photos in the sensor's direction and add an EXIF tag that says how to turn them for display. Most apps read the tag, but some old programs and upload forms ignore it, so the photo appears sideways there.

    This tool applies the tag when it opens the file, then saves the pixels the right way up, so the result looks the same everywhere. That also makes a correctly shown photo stay correct after you rotate it.

    Limitations

    • JPG files are saved again at quality 92, because lossless JPEG rotation (which rearranges the compressed blocks) is not offered here.
    • JPG has no transparency, so custom angles always use the fill color.
    • Animated GIFs keep only their first frame, saved as PNG.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does rotating a JPG reduce its quality?

    The pixels are moved exactly, but the JPG has to be saved again, here at quality 92. The change is too small to see at normal size. Use PNG if you need a lossless result.

    How do I rotate a photo that shows sideways?

    Add it here and pick the turn that makes it upright: 90° clockwise, 270° (which is 90° counter-clockwise), or 180°. The saved file shows upright in every app.

    Can I rotate by a small angle to straighten a photo?

    Yes. Choose Custom and type an angle such as 1.5 or -3. The canvas grows to fit the corners, so crop the result afterwards for clean edges.

    Can I rotate many images at once?

    Yes, up to 20. They all turn by the same angle and download together as a ZIP.
