    How to use the Image Converter

    1. Add up to 20 images: choose them, drop them on the box, or paste one.
    2. Pick the format under Convert to: WebP, AVIF, PNG, or JPG.
    3. Tick Lossless if you need every pixel exactly as it was, even though the file will be bigger.
    4. For JPG, choose the color that fills transparent areas.
    5. Check the size before and after in the list, then download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

    How it works

    Renaming a file from .jpg to .webp does not convert it. This tool decodes the image to pixels and encodes those pixels again with a real encoder for the target format, then checks the first bytes of the result against that format's signature before offering the download.

    • Lossless sources stay lossless. PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO, and lossless WebP become lossless WebP or AVIF, so the pixels match exactly.
    • Photos keep their look. A JPG going to WebP is saved at quality 90, to AVIF at quality 85, and to JPG at quality 95, with full color resolution (4:4:4) for AVIF and JPG.
    • Same size. The output has the same width and height as the original. Nothing is scaled, and a photo with a rotation tag is saved upright.
    • Transparency is kept for PNG, WebP, and AVIF. The color profile is copied, so photos from phones with wide color keep their colors.

    Examples

    The sample photo is a 163 KB JPG (1600 × 1067 px):

    • To WebP: 134.6 KB, 1600 × 1067.
    • To AVIF: 138.7 KB, 1600 × 1067.
    • To PNG: 1.29 MB. PNG stores every pixel without loss, so photos get much bigger.

    A 3.8 KB PNG logo with a transparent background becomes a 2.2 KB lossless WebP, pixel for pixel the same.

    To make a file smaller at the cost of some quality, use the Image Compressor instead. This page never lowers quality.

    Limitations

    • HEIC and HEIF photos can only be opened in Safari. Elsewhere the tool tells you to export them as JPG first.
    • For SVG files, use SVG to PNG, because an SVG has no fixed pixel size.
    • Animated GIF and WebP files keep only their first frame.
    • 16-bit PNG files are saved with 8 bits per channel, the most WebP, AVIF, and JPG hold here.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the image really converted or just renamed?

    Really converted. The pixels are encoded again in the new format, and the first bytes of the result are checked against the format's signature (for example RIFF...WEBP for WebP) before you can download it.

    Will converting lose quality?

    No visible quality is lost. Lossless images are converted losslessly, and photos are saved at a setting that looks the same as the original. Tick Lossless for an exact copy of every pixel.

    Why did my JPG get bigger when I converted it?

    The original JPG was saved at a lower quality than the high setting used here, or you chose PNG, which stores photos without loss. To shrink files, use the Image Compressor.

    Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

    Only in Safari, which can open HEIC. In other browsers, set your iPhone camera to Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPG first.
